The Danish government decided, today, Tuesday, to close its embassy in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, “After the withdrawal of Danish force protection personnel and the national support element from the NATO mission in Iraq, the Danish government decided to close the Danish embassy in Baghdad.”
She added, “The Danish embassy in Baghdad was officially opened in 2020 to support the Danish leadership and contribute to the NATO mission in Iraq (and after the end of the Danish leadership over the NATO mission in May 2022, a smaller number of Danish individuals will continue to contribute to the mission.”
She pointed out, “With the withdrawal of the majority of the Danish military contribution, the main mission of the Danish embassy in Baghdad, Iraq has been completed and therefore the Danish government has decided to close the embassy as of May 31, 2024.”
