Fares Al-Jawari, a researcher and specialist in aviation affairs, confirmed yesterday, Monday, that there are no signs of lifting the European ban on Iraqi Airlines, 10 years after it was placed on the list.
Al-Jawari said, “Iraqi airports’ 100% safety and security requirements depend on audit committees from the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority/Air Safety Department to monitor the performance and work of these airports and their application of the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization.”
He added, “The standards determine how airports use the issue of take-off, landing, and transporting passengers,” noting that “this committee is the one that determines whether the airport meets the security and safety conditions correctly and at a high rate.”
Al-Jawari continued, “This audit and follow-up takes place on an annual basis, as this committee goes out every year to audit Iraqi airports to determine the percentage of compliance with safety and security conditions, and it conducts its work very precisely, so that Iraqi airports operate in accordance with the standards and conditions set by the International Civil Aviation Organization.”
He stated, “There is a very important matter, which is that Iraqi Airways will enter its tenth year, meaning (10) years of the European ban imposed on its flights,” pointing out that “during the next few days, there will be a meeting of the first (IASA) for the year 2024 to review the situation.” Banned airlines.
The specialist confirmed, “There are no signs of a solution to this intractable crisis in the history of the Iraqi national carrier, which is represented by the presence of (ISASA) auditors in the company to scrutinize cases of error in it,” noting that “a lot of information about the causes and solutions to this problem is derived from the recommendations for solutions of international committees that She visited the company in 2016 and 2019.”
On Sunday (May 12, 2024), the Civil Aviation Authority began the inspection and licensing process for Najaf Al-Ashraf International Airport.
The Aviation Authority stated in a statement, “A team specialized in inspecting airports and licensing them from the Civil Aviation Authority, in accordance with the instructions and regulations of the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority, visited Najaf Al-Ashraf International Airport.”
She explained, “The team will examine and inspect all technical aspects of the airport related to the air side and operational matters in accordance with air safety requirements and the standard standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).”
She stressed, “This project will contribute to raising the level of services provided to airports and increasing their attractiveness to international airlines,” noting, “The series of visits and follow-ups to local airports will continue in order to maintain all safety requirements and develop the air transport sector.”
