The framework is awkward between Al-Mashhadani and Al-Issawi... and he sees his salvation in the “three rounds” strategy

    Baghdad today - Baghdad
As the Sunni forces continue to disagree on a single candidate for the presidency of Parliament, the forces of the Coordination Framework continue not to announce their support for one candidate over another, and with the date of the election of the Speaker of Parliament approaching next Saturday, it seems that the framework is heading towards a strategy of three rounds, but the third will be decisive for the second, that is, He will receive the highest votes in the second round and will prepare himself for the final coronation in the third.
The Badr Organization, led by Hadi Al-Amiri, confirmed today, Thursday (May 16, 2024), that the majority within the House of Representatives supports the representative from Anbar Governorate, Salem Al-Issawi, to assume the presidency of Parliament, in a statement that is not consistent with other declared positions.
The leader of the organization, Abu Mithaq Al-Masari, told “Baghdad Today” that “the majority of representatives from all political blocs (Shiite, Sunni, Kurdish) support the appointment of the representative from Anbar Governorate, Salem Al-Issawi, to assume the presidency of Parliament during the next stage, and his chances are still the highest despite Announcing Al-Mashhadani’s support from the Taqaddum Party.”
Al-Masari added, "We expect that in the first round of elections no candidate will obtain an absolute majority, but in the second round, matters will be decided in favor of Salem Al-Issawi, and he will achieve the majority, as there is great political and parliamentary support for him and there are no reservations or suspicions about him."
Al-Masari’s statement comes in contradiction to some statements by political forces within the coordination framework that confirm that Al-Mashhadani received support and that most of the opinions of the coordination framework changed after the State of Law coalition announced its support for Al-Mashhadani.
Parliament is preparing to hold a session next Saturday to elect the Speaker of Parliament, while Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani and Salem Al-Issawi are the most prominent candidates for the position.
The forces of progress and leadership are lined up behind Al-Mashhadani, while determination, decisiveness, and sovereignty share support for Al-Issawi, with the coordination framework forces divided without clear positions to support any of the two candidates, as the framework forces are keen not to express an explicit opinion to support one name over another.
The Framework Forces have insisted throughout the previous days on the need for the Sunni forces to agree on a single name in order to be explicitly supported by the Framework Forces and other political forces. However, it appears, so far, that the Sunni forces are continuing the dual polarization, which has made the opinion of the Framework Forces unclear by supporting a candidate without last.
Therefore, it seems that the framework is moving towards the “three rounds” strategy, by leaving the door to voting freely for the representatives without central direction, to identify who gets the highest votes in the second round, complementing the first round that was held months ago, and then heading collectively in the third round to vote on the name that was chosen. He will get the highest votes.
