Iraq: An American company and a British institute were targeted after Al-Sadr accused Washington of supporting Zionist terrorism

Unidentified gunmen targeted, at dawn on Thursday, an American company and a British educational institute in central Baghdad, with sound bombs that did not result in human casualties, as part of a series of similar operations that affected branches of famous American restaurants in the capital, and after a scathing accusation directed by the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, to the United States of America. And the West, by supporting “Zionist terrorism” in the Gaza Strip.
Desperate actions
In a statement issued by the Federal Security Media Cell yesterday, it stated, “At (1:20 after midnight on Wednesday/Thursday), a sonic grenade exploded in front of the Caterpillar Company in the Jadriya area, and it also exploded at (1:20 after midnight on Wednesday/Thursday). Thursday) another sonic bomb in front of the Cambridge Institute on Palestine Street, in the middle of a residential area in the capital, Baghdad, without any human or material damage.
The cell added in its statement, “Such actions are desperately trying to harm Iraq’s reputation and the tangible direction of reconstruction and service to citizens, as well as the status and sacrifices of our security forces.”
She stressed that “the heroic security forces, with their various titles and intelligence agencies, will pursue and reach all those who tamper with security and societal peace and transgress the law and public and private property.”
Last Monday, dozens of people organized protests in front of the “Pepsi/Baghdad” company, denouncing the current events in the Gaza Strip. According to video clips spread on social media platforms, the protesters chanted the slogans “No, No, to the agents,” “No, No, Israel,” “No, No, America,” and “Yes, yes to Al-Aqsa,” raising the Palestinian flag.
Before that, on Sunday evening, unknown persons targeted two restaurants belonging to the American KFC restaurant chain, the first in the Palestine Street area and the other in the Karrada-62 area in the capital, Baghdad.
Following these attacks, the Iraqi Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir al-Shammari, directed that the brigade commander be relieved and arrested, and that the federal police and intelligence forces be detained in the areas where the restaurants were targeted.
Punishing negligent people
He supervised the reopening of the targeted restaurants within 48 hours, according to a statement provided by the ministry.
He also directed a number of measures, including punishing negligent members of the holding forces, relieving one of the brigade commanders from his position, placing him under arrest, and forming an investigative board against him.
The latest attack on the American company and the British Institute came hours after the leader of the Sadrist movement/Shiite National Movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, appeared in a video speech in which he said that democracy and American promises are a double standard, while pointing out that those who claim humanity support Zionist terrorism in Gaza.
He added, “Any other country or ruler did what the Zionists did of bombing the camps and leaving behind the burned bodies of women and children in a horrific way that shames humanity, or what the representative of the Zionists did of tearing up United Nations resolutions in front of the eyes of people and countries, and what he did of public defiance of the resolutions.” The International Court of Justice would have stood still and not sat down.”
He explained that “American democracy and freedom and its tails are deceptive and a double standard, as it prohibits this from some and permits it to its spoiled daughter, the state of the Zionists,” asking: “What logic is this, what justice is this, and what democracy or freedom is this? Rather, it is just arrogance, arrogance, injustice, and bloodshed?”
Al-Sadr added, saying: “It closes its eyes and deafens its ears to these massacres, genocide and ethnic cleansing,” pointing out that “those who claim humanity support Zionist terrorism in Gaza.”
The Iraqi armed factions and the Sadrist movement share in holding the United States of America and its allies responsible for supporting the Israeli occupation operations against the Palestinians, and both of them consider the American presence in Iraq and the region an “occupation.”
However, neither party claimed responsibility for the recent attacks on American and British interests in the capital, Baghdad. Governmentally, the Iraqi government called for an Arab, Islamic and regional movement to prevent genocide in Palestine.
Iraqi government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi said in a press statement on Wednesday evening that “the Iraqi government is following the developments of the situation in Gaza and the occupied territories in Palestine, and in particular the recent escalation of the Zionist aggression against Rafah, with more women, children and unarmed civilians becoming martyrs, which calls for An exceptional Arab and regional pause, as it requires the international community and its organizations to bear responsibility and make more efforts to stop the criminal persistence in wading in the blood of our Palestinian people.”
He added, “Iraq calls for a responsible Arab, Islamic, and regional movement, at the popular and official levels, and at the level of all voices that can influence pressure. In order to put an end to the disregard for international and humanitarian norms, prevent the full-fledged genocide that is taking place, and prevent the spread of conflict in the region, irresponsibly pushing it towards the brink of an endless spiral of violence.”
According to Al-Awadi, “Iraq highly appreciates the recent positions represented by a number of friendly countries recognizing the State of Palestine on its historical land, in a clear response to the negligent policies pursued by some international powers that supported the aggression, or remained silent about it, and even went to great lengths to justify the crime.”
The Iraqi government also renewed its support for “the cause of the Palestinian people, and urged all relevant international bodies and governments to act immediately to open the way for medical and food aid and humanitarian relief efforts.”
This comes at a time when the head of the Iraqi Media and Communications Commission, Ali Al-Muayyad, affirmed that Iraq stands by the Arab world and supports the Palestinian cause, while indicating Iraq’s rejection of policies of double standards in the scale of international justice.
The head of the Media and Communications Commission/head of the Iraqi delegation participating in the fifty-fourth regular session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers held in Manama said, “Iraq today, represented by its people and its government led by the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani, stands by its Arab brothers and supports their issues, especially The Palestinian issue, which, as everyone knows, was not absent from his discussions in all dialogues, meetings and stations nationally, regionally and internationally.”
He pointed out that “Iraq, as a people and government, stands by our Palestinian people in their ordeal, and praises all the humanitarian stances that have recorded a global awakening, especially in the scientific edifices represented by university students, cultural, labor and youth elites, who have demonstrated their position rejecting all crimes of genocide and their call to support the Palestinian cause and stop blind violence.” Against defenseless civilians” once again, “Iraq rejected the policies of double standards in the international scale of justice, and adopted the slogan (Humanity is indivisible). The blood of the children and women of Palestine has become a sign and standard for the free people of the world and their humanitarian principles, which is a great gain for this true cause. Conscience, media, thought, and cause.”
Al-Muayyad called for “the presence of representatives of Arab countries in order to launch an expanded Arab media alliance, the goal of which is to support the Palestinian cause, and to continue exposing the crimes of the occupation, which has become a clear genocide against our people in Gaza, leaving more than (35 thousand) martyrs, half of whom are women and children.” The journalistic family lost approximately 143 martyrs, according to the latest update by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics.
