With the electricity sector suffering for many years without finding radical solutions to this crisis, which is considered the first concern for the Iraqi citizen, especially with the scorching temperatures, the Ministry of Electricity has taken a series of measures to address this crisis in various fields, including maintenance of stations, feeders and transmission lines, in addition to administrative measures related to changes in officials.
Member of the Parliamentary Energy and Electricity Committee, Kazem Al-Tawki, told Al-Sabah: “Mobile stations are important and solve a large part of the problems that accompany the electric power sector,” noting that “mobile power stations greatly alleviate the problems that accompany the transfer and cases of dropping in the electric system.”
He pointed out that "mobile stations are useful in energy transfer operations between governorates in terms of reducing distance and reducing transmission lines, and they can be placed in governorates that are experiencing an energy shortage."
For his part, the director of the "Iraq Energy Center", Furat Al-Moussawi, told "Al-Sabah": "Mobile power stations are the means used globally to provide quick sources to supply emergency, temporary, or distant loads from the site of the secondary station equipped for a specific area," indicating that "they can produce between 500 and 800 megawatts."
He added, "These stations contribute to increasing the flexibility and stability of the electricity grid supply, as well as strengthening the grid connections in areas that need urgent supply for development projects."
Al-Moussawi concluded, "Achieving sustainable economic development is linked to the government's ability to develop the local sector through strong and flexible energy transmission systems."
Yesterday, Tuesday, the Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadel, visited the electricity sector of the Dora expansion station (132), accompanied by the head and members of the Parliamentary Energy Committee, where the Director of Energy Transmission / Central Region, Riyad Aribi, provided a detailed explanation of the station, where he indicated the introduction of a third transformer to operate in the station with a capacity of 90 mva to increase availability and relieve pressure on the areas surrounding the Dora thermal station.
During the tour, the Minister of Electricity confirmed that "great efforts are being made to secure stable and sustainable hours of electricity supply in the country," revealing "a significant increase in production compared to last year."
He explained that "the demand for energy has increased significantly during this summer," stressing "the mobilization of the ministry's cadres to resolve bottlenecks in some areas and respond quickly to emergency breakdowns due to high temperatures."
For his part, the head of the Parliamentary Energy Committee, MP Mohammed Abd Rabbo, stressed the "importance of the electricity sector during the summer to confront the high temperatures," praising the "efforts of the ministry's staff to improve the level of services and meet the increasing demand for energy."
In a related context, the Kurdistan Democratic Party parliamentary bloc confirmed that the electricity problem will not be solved except through privatization, taking into account acceptable prices and those with limited income.
Member of the bloc, Majed Shankali, told Al-Sabah: “The electricity problem is not with the Minister of Electricity or the government. The electricity problem will be solved when the electricity sector is privatized and there are companies operating in the sector with all its sections, from production, distribution, transportation and collection, all of which are private sectors, and the connection is electronic for most of the system.”
