    Baghdad Today - Sulaymaniyah
Former member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Ahmed Al-Haj Rashid, confirmed today, Saturday (August 17, 2024), that the regional government is responsible for the delay in disbursing the salaries of its employees.
Al-Hajj Rashid told Baghdad Today, "The Kurdistan government wants to preserve its privileges, and every time it comes up with new arguments, and it does not care about the delays and the harm that befalls the citizen."
He added, "Every month, the regional government makes new appointments and concludes new contracts, which increases the amount of money allocated to the region. Basically, there is a liquidity crisis in Baghdad, which is why this delay occurs."
He pointed out that "most of the appointments made by the regional government recently are for election propaganda purposes, and the victim is the employee whose salary has been delayed for more than 45 days."
Employees and retirees in the Kurdistan Region are suffering from severe economic problems as a result of the delay in disbursing their salaries for about 10 years. On this basis, the Federal Supreme Court took a decision to localize the salaries of the region’s employees and retirees with Baghdad. However, the decision was met with the Erbil government’s refusal to provide all the necessary information and the actual numbers of its employees to the federal banks in Baghdad, which prompted the latter to not send the salaries of the region’s employees.
Duplicate names and "alien" remain the biggest problem that hinders the disbursement of salaries to security forces in the region and even to civilians .
For his part, Member of Parliament, Soran Omar, announced on Friday (August 16, 2024) the formation of a committee consisting of 15 members, whose mission is to audit the payrolls of employees in the Kurdistan Region .
Omar said in statements reported by Kurdish media outlets, followed by "Baghdad Today", that "the head of the Federal Financial Supervision Bureau formed a 15-member committee the day before yesterday, Wednesday, which will visit the Kurdistan Region soon ."
He explained that "the committee formed is tasked with auditing the payrolls of Kurdistan employees as well as the region's financial revenues and expenditures ."
MP Omar had previously stated that "the Financial Oversight Committee and the Federal Ministry of Finance have observations and reservations on the employees' salary lists and demanded that they be amended, which was rejected by the Ministry of Finance in the Kurdistan Regional Government ."
For more than two months, members of the Peshmerga forces and other security forces have been waiting for the issue of their payrolls to be resolved by the federal and Kurdistan governments.
