    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Today, Tuesday (October 22, 2024), the Victory Coalition, led by Haider al-Abadi, raised several questions regarding the eavesdropping file in Iraq, while indicating that the issue had taken on dimensions greater than its size.
The leader of the coalition, Aqil Al-Radini, said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The Iraqi constitution is clear in prohibiting eavesdropping on state institutions in all its forms, but the question is, was there actually eavesdropping?" He pointed out that "if the matter actually happened with evidence, it can be referred to the judiciary and investigated and the negligent ones held accountable, but what is happening now is an exaggeration."
He added, "Eavesdropping exists all over the world, but according to Iraqi laws it is a violation. The most important question is why was it raised at this time, who sought to raise this issue, and why were other files raised in a specific period of time? All these questions confirm the existence of an agenda behind what is happening, and this explains the media and political dimension to it, although it will be resolved through judicial procedures and investigations and the matter will end."
Al-Radini acknowledged that “the file has taken on a greater dimension and scope, despite it being a legal violation. However, we see that the existence of an agenda behind raising the issue is something that no two people disagree on, and exaggeration is present in it.”
On Tuesday (August 20, 2024), Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani directed the formation of an investigative committee against one of the employees working in the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Prime Minister's media office said in a statement received by "Baghdad Today" that "Al-Sudani directed the formation of an investigative committee against one of the employees working in the Prime Minister's Office for adopting an offensive post against some officials and a number of members of the House of Representatives, and issuing an order to withdraw his hand until the investigation is completed, stressing that there will be no tolerance for any violation of the law, and that he supports all legal procedures in this regard."
On Monday (August 19, 2024), Member of Parliament Mustafa Sand revealed the arrest of a network inside the office of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, which includes officers “spying” on the phones of representatives and politicians.
Sand said in a statement seen by Baghdad Today, "The Karkh Investigation Court, which specializes in terrorism cases, arrested a network from the government palace of the Prime Minister's Office, headed by the close associate (Mohammed Juhi) and a number of officers and employees."
He added, "The network was carrying out several dirty activities, including eavesdropping on the phones of a number of representatives and politicians (most notably my phone number)."
He continued: "The network also directs electronic armies, creates fake news, and impersonates politicians, businessmen, and channel owners."
He stressed that "the network admitted its actions, and their statements were recorded initially and judicially.
