[ltr]Lebanese tourism heading for Jordanians and Iraqis to compensate for the decline in the number of Gulf[/ltr]

Ashkar said that this program aims to at least partially compensate for the significant decline inthe number of Gulf tourists who had their numbers before the explosion of the Syrian crisis in 2011 form the backbone of the tourism sector inLebanon.

But the downside wave temporarily stopped during the years 2014 and 2015, registering a growth of 12.8% and 6.8%, respectively, and the decline in the number of Gulf from 385.984 in 2010 to 104.551 visitors in the year 2015 , a sharp decline of about 73%.
And it retreated days accommodation in hotels about 60%, and the proportion of the contribution of the tourism sector in thegross domestic product of $ 7 billion in 2010 to 3.5 billion in 2015, up to a partial closure of some of them and divert staff in anattempt to cut costs and survive as much as possible.
It is noteworthy that in Lebanon, there are approximately 460 hotels, comprising about 23 thousand rooms, but since 2011 ,room rates have fallen to reach the proportion of this decline today to about 40%, as confirmed by Pierre Ashkar in light of theoccupancy rate of between 25 and 45% . Ended (1)
