European refineries are heading to the Gulf region to compensate for the shortage and technical obstacles facing Iraq
Shafaq News/ Refineries in Europe have started racing to benefit from the grades of the Gulf oil-producing countries, to compensate for Russian oil supplies and face rising demand, while Iraq suffers from many obstacles to increase its production.
European refineries obtained Gulf grades, such as Iraqi Basra crude, Murban crude and Upper Zakum crude from Abu Dhabi, and Omani crude.
However, these countries remain restricted in the amount they can send to Europe as a result of the lack of surplus production, while the reasons for Iraq's inability are summarized in several factors, including political instability and technical matters, including the delay in the process of expanding the southern ports for export.
"All eyes will be on how OPEC manages to increase its ability to increase production next year, and how much market share it can regain," said Elizabeth Murphy, an analyst in exploration and production at ESAI.
And oil analyst Amir al-Hasani said in an interview with Shafaq News Agency, "Iraq's delay in developing its export infrastructure will deprive it of the greatest opportunity to increase its oil exports with the high demand for oil from Europe to compensate for Russian oil."
He adds that "Iraq cannot increase its production at the present time with its limited ability to export from its southern ports and its lack of storage," noting that "Gulf oil-producing countries such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia may precede Iraq in supplying the European market with what it needs of crude oil, and therefore it deprives Iraq of these markets."
The second largest oil producer in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries aims to increase Basra's operating export capacity to 3.45 million barrels per day from 3.3 million barrels per day.
