International oil prices plunged 3 percent on Friday after US President Donald Trump pressed the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) again to increase its crude output to push gasoline prices down.
According to news sites, Trump told reporters on Friday he had contacted OPEC and asked the organization to cut oil prices. He did not specify the identity of the person who spoke to him.
Analysts said profit-taking sales after the longest chain of gains for the oil market in at least a year contributed to further price declines.
Brent crude ended the trading session low $ 2.20, or 3 percent, to settle at $ 72.15 per barrel.
US WTI crude fell $ 1.91, or 2.9 percent, to settle at $ 63.30 a barrel.
Brent ended the week steady after four consecutive weeks of gains, while US crude fell 1.2 percent over the week, reversing six straight weeks of gains.
