UAE: heading for a break with Qatar

    Date of release: 2017/7/1

UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash said there would be no quick end to the dispute between Qatar and the four Arab countries that the United Arab Emirates has boycotted.
Gargash wrote on his official account on Twitter, "heading to a long break, is a summary of the evidence before us, and as Qatar screams the sovereign decision, the four countries boycotting terrorism is exercising its sovereign procedures."
"The truth is that we are far from the political solution related to Qatar's change of direction, and in the meantime nothing will change and we have to look for a different kind of relations."
"The four boycotting countries have every right to protect themselves, to close their borders and to protect their stability, and their procedures in this context are continuing and will be strengthened," Gargash said on Twitter.
"Although we may lose the confusing and confusing neighbor, we gain clarity and transparency, a broad welcoming world in which we will move a true homogeneous group."
"We are in front of sovereign choices that will be exercised by all parties according to their national interests, their trust in those around them and their reading of their neighbors.
The words suggest there is no breakthrough in the situation after US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson left the Gulf on Thursday after a three-day Gulf tour aimed at easing the worst-ever dispute between Arab states allied to the United States.
During his visit to Doha, Tillerson signed a US-Qatari deal on the financing of terrorism in a bid to help ease the crisis, but opponents of Qatar said the move was not enough to calm their fears.
The State Department said Thursday that Tillerson hoped the parties to the conflict would conduct direct negotiations soon.
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut off diplomatic ties and closed roads between them and Qatar on June 5, accusing them of supporting terrorism and defeating Iran, which Doha denies.
