Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Saturday raised the issue of handing over the central government in Baghdad to the revenues of oil fields in Kurdistan, saying that the funds will be used to pay the salaries of civil servants of the Kurds.
"The federal government is ready to control the oil revenues to pay the salaries of (Kurdistan Region) employees in full," Abadi said on Twitter.
It is not clear whether the Baghdad government has the power to control oil revenues in the Kurdistan region, which has retained for years revenue and pay salaries.
Abadi said on Thursday that Turkey had informed Iraq that it would deal only with its government with regard to crude oil exports. Kurdish crude oil is exported to the world markets through a pipeline to the Turkish coast on the Mediterranean Sea.
Baghdad imposed a ban on international flights to the region on Friday.
