The close selection of a person for the position of Speaker of Parliament

Political analysts and observers reported that the political blocs of the Sunni component are close to choosing a person for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, especially after the extension of the legislative term, while they made clear that some parties of the Sunni component are not counting on changing Article 12 of the Council’s bylaws.
Political analyst, Dr. Mahasha Al-Tamimi, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “The issue of choosing the Speaker of the House of Representatives seems to be moving towards a solution, especially after the legislative term of the House was extended, meaning that the political forces have agreed among themselves that this will not remain.” The position is vacant.”
Al-Tamimi stated, “The solutions are underway to elect (Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani), head of the (Sadara) bloc, who is the person close to the former Speaker of the House of Representatives and leader of the (Taqaddum) Party, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, in addition to the strong relations that link Al-Mashhadani with the major political forces within the coordination framework.”
He stressed, “Although this solution is satisfactory for the (Taqaddum) party led by Al-Halbousi, the party still does not rely on amending Article 12 of the bylaws, and there are parties within the framework, including (The Wisdom Movement, Asaib Ahl al-Haq, and the Badr Organization) who have announced that they will With the right of the (Taqadum) Party to assume this position, it is a setback for the opponents of Al-Halbousi who presented (Salem Al-Issawi) to head the House of Representatives.” He added, “Thus, things have become clear, that the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives is for the (Taqadum) Party or whoever is satisfied with it.” (progress)".
As for the political analyst, Dr. Talib Karim, he told “Al-Sabah”: “The position of Speaker of the House of Representatives remaining vacant throughout this period revealed once again the fragility of political relations between the (Sunni) component itself and the political blocs participating in power,” meaning “The national responsibility that necessitates working in accordance with the highest interests and the Iraqi people, who are waiting for a lot of parliamentary legislation, is (absent) from political action under multiple pretexts that came in accordance with the ill-fated logic of quotas and the numerical majority that clings to the authority to control and impose political equations at the expense of the state and the life of the citizen,” as he put it. .
He added, "There is an opinion that this is a matter for the Sunni political forces, given that the position represents the entitlement of the constituents, forgetting that the institutions (including the House of Representatives) are the property of the people, and are not limited to one group over another, which requires the use of pressure from partners (political forces) in A way to end the vacuum in state institutions that conflicts with the principles of the Constitution.”
He continued: “Some Shiite political forces tried to sympathize with Al-Halbousi and change the internal system in order to create a space of freedom to present alternative candidates,” and he explained that “the option (amending the internal system) may open another door to a new heresy that will leave its negative effects on the entire political scene.” “This made sympathizers back away from this option, and thus we are faced with deciding whether to present the candidate within these next few days.”
For his part, the political analyst, Mohamed Salah, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah” that “Mohamed Al-Halbousi’s departure from the position after his dismissal from the Federal Court left the position in a vacuum, and a state of sterile political debate prevailed regarding the selection of a new figure to head the House of Representatives.” He explained that "over the past months, the people have lost many laws that were not passed due to the failure to fill the position that is disputed by the Sunni factions."
He explained, “There is a problem with the (Taqadum) party in choosing the position in its favor, while the rest of the Sunni component parties refuse to let the position go to (Taqadum), and announced that an absolute choice should be proposed by the component and not to a specific Sunni bloc.” He added, “The Sunni forces must To make up its mind to choose a person from the component to end the vacancy in the position.”
