    [ltr]Continue Mawazine News:[/ltr]
[ltr]The United Nations put the Saudi-led military alliance on a black list on Thursday for the killing and wounding of 683 children in Yemen and attacks on dozens of schools and hospitals in 2016, but noted that the coalition had taken action to improve child protection.[/ltr]
[ltr]The blacklist, attached to an annual United Nations report on children in armed conflict, also included the Houthi group, Yemeni government forces, pro-government insurgents and AQAP for child abuse in 2016, as it did in a report last year.[/ltr]
[ltr]The report was submitted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterich to the Security Council on Thursday.[/ltr]
[ltr]He had published a report on Tuesday on the draft black list.[/ltr]
[ltr]The Saudi-led alliance was briefly blacklisted last year and later ruled out by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at that time pending a review. Ban then accused Saudi Arabia of exerting "unacceptable" and illegitimate pressure after sources told Reuters Riyadh had threatened to suspend some UN funding. Saudi Arabia has denied Ban's threat.[/ltr]
[ltr]In an attempt to end the controversy surrounding the report, this year's blacklist has been divided into two categories. One of them lists parties that have implemented child protection measures, including the Saudi-led military alliance and the other parties that have not.[/ltr]
[ltr]The report was prepared by Virgina Gamba, the United Nations envoy on children and armed conflict, and issued on behalf of Guterich. The report does not subject blacklisted countries to UN action but instead attacks the parties in the hope that it will push for child protection measures.[/ltr]
[ltr]More than 10,000 people have been killed in the civil war in Yemen for more than two years that has pushed millions of people to the brink of starvation. The Houthis control much of northern Yemen, including the capital, Sanaa.[/ltr]
    [ltr]is over[/ltr]
