Judiciary directs arrest warrants against journalists
31/10/2017 12:00 am [rtl]Baghdad / Al-Sabah The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on Monday ordered the courts to investigate the need for accuracy in the issuance of arrest warrants in general and for journalists in particular. The spokesman of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Abdul Sattar Birqdar, said in a statement to the council, The sixteenth subject of arrest warrants issued by the courts of inquiry, especially concerning journalists. He added that "the Council pointed out the need to be careful in the issuance of these memoranda and recommended not to resort to them except in the cases stipulated by the law and taking into account Article 10/2 of the Journalists Law No. 21 of 2011 on the need to notify the Journalists Syndicate any complaint against the journalist related to the exercise of his work "He said. "The verdict was issued in accordance with Article 331 of the Iraqi Penal Code, on the issue of functional exploitation and overriding powers," said Berkdar.
