Former Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Subhi al-Tufayli on Tuesday criticized corruption in Iran, accusing Tehran of trying to suppress demonstrations demanding reform.

"Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, has to stand up to the hungry and not to corruption," he said, referring to the regime in Iran causing riots and killings and unfairly attributing the demonstrators to "justify murder." And arrest as he did in Syria, "as he put it.

Al-Tufayli added that "the hungry of Iran is keen on peaceful demonstration." Khamenei must stand with the hungry, not with corruption, and constitute a truthful and honest committee for treatment, not destroying Iran, destroying Syria.

Demonstrations have been staged in several Iranian cities, including Tehran, since last Thursday, in protest against economic hardship, unemployment, high prices and corruption. So far 12 people have been killed, including 10 demonstrators and hundreds arrested.

Authorities say they do not shoot at protesters and accuse "troublemakers" and "enemies of the revolution" of being among them.

The former Secretary-General of the Lebanese Hezbollah, Sobhi al-Tufayli, on Monday launched an attack on Iran, criticizing corruption in the regime.

"The regime in Iran is causing riots and killing and unjustly attributing the demonstrators to justify the killing and detention as it did in Syria," he said in a tweet on Twitter.

"Khamenei must stand with the hungry and not with corruption," he said. "It is a sincere and honest committee for treatment. It does not destroy Iran, nor does it destroy Syria." He warned that "the end is disastrous for everyone."
