Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister Hussein Gabri Ansari discussed the settlement of the Syrian crisis, including efforts to make the Syrian national dialogue conference in Sochi a success.
The Syrian presidency said in a statement on Saturday that Assad and Gabri Ansari, who arrived in Damascus at the head of an official delegation, also discussed strategic relations between their countries and ways to strengthen them in various fields, especially the fight against terrorism.
The two sides also discussed "the dangers of continuing Turkish aggression on Syrian territory, how to confront it and prevent it from achieving its goals of occupying Syrian territory, supporting terrorist organizations and blowing up efforts to find a peaceful solution that will restore security and stability to Syria," the statement said.
Assad told the Iranian delegation that the Syrians "are continuing their struggle against terrorism in cooperation with friendly countries, especially Iran and Russia, paving the way towards achieving a peaceful solution decided by the Syrians themselves."
For his part, Gabri Ansari stressed that the Iranian leadership and the people will continue to provide all possible support to Syria, especially with regard to the fight against terrorism until the return of stability to Syria and contribute to the reconstruction of what was destroyed by terrorism.
Gabri Ansari is scheduled to meet during a two-day visit to Damascus, senior Syrian officials to discuss the latest political developments and field in Syria, according to the agency "Fares."
