Trump agrees to execute drug traffickers
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump will present an anti-drug plan on Monday that would impose the death penalty on some drug traffickers, a White House official said.
"The US Department of Justice will demand the death penalty for drug traffickers when possible under the laws currently in force," the official said, without giving details of the possible use of the punishment.
According to the French agency, Trump will detail his plan during a speech in the city of Manchester in the state of New Hampshire, where the spread of drugs, in the words of the US president.
In 2016, the US Department of Health reported 64,000 deaths from overdose, mostly opium and heroin. This type of drug includes prescription pain relievers such as oxycontein and fentanyl, and heroin mixed with industrial substances.
