    WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump has approved new sanctions against Russia for "alleged violations of the Convention on the Limitation of Short- and Mid-Range Missiles," a senior administration official said.
    The US Department of Commerce will impose sanctions on Russian companies developing new missile technologies to "change the economic plans" of the Russian government, the Politeco newspaper quoted the US official as saying.
    The US Congress had previously allocated a special item in the country's defense budget for the year 2018 for the expenses of research in the field of missiles of the said type, saying that he is ready to abandon these expenses in the event of Moscow's "commitment to the Convention."
