Iraq has signed a contract with two Chinese companies, Power China and Norinco International, to build an oil refinery at the port of Faw on the Gulf, an oil official said .
The official said the refinery's production capacity would reach 300,000 bpd and would include a petrochemical plant, saying the deal was signed last Saturday in Iraq .
And the refinery of Faw, located south of Basra, one of the projects planned by Iraq in its quest to achieve self-sufficiency of oil products .
Iraq is the world's second largest crude producer after Saudi Arabia, and Iraq's refining capacity shrank when Islamic state regulation seized the largest crude refinery in Baiji, north of Baghdad in 2014 .
Iraqi forces returned to Baiji in 2015 but suffered heavy damage during the fighting. The country currently relies on the Doura refinery in Baghdad and the Shuaiba station in Basra .
