The Turkish ambassador in Baghdad, Fatih Yildiz, commented on the reactions of the official and popular Iraqi people due to the "drought" of the Tigris River after the Turkish government began filling the Elissu Dam, which was built on the Tigris River.

He pointed out that "Turkey will continue to stand by Iraq on the waters of the Tigris and Euphrates and manage this water properly, as Turkey considers the water Tigris and Euphrates shared water."
