Israeli military commander threatens to invade Gaza
Former head of Israel's Home Front Command, Eyal Eisenberg, threatened to invade the Gaza Strip if "Hamas continues to escalate."
"We have no reason to fear entering the Gaza Strip, and if Hamas continues to escalate, the IDF will be inside the Gaza Strip," Eisenberg told Army Radio. "Summer is a wonderful time for us."
"We underestimated this issue when it started, and it could have been dealt with in a different way," Eisenberg warned of the danger of Palestinians continuing to fire flammable kites from the Gaza Strip into Israel.
Gaza residents began firing kites loaded with flaming fabrics towards Israeli areas as a means of protesting against the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip, a move that angered the Israeli army.
Israeli authorities say some 20,000 dunums have been burned by kites fired by Palestinian youths on the border.
