    Iranian Vice President Ishaq Jahangiri said on Tuesday that his country expects Iraq to commit to providing a huge share of water, calling on the Iranian Foreign Ministry to follow up the issue of Iran's right to share water from the border rivers.
    "The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to provide the necessary assistance to the Iraqi government in the field of extinguishing the fire in Hor al-Azim," Jahangiri told a meeting of the Supreme Water Council on Tuesday.
    "The Iranian government and people have spared no effort at any time to provide assistance to the Iraqi government and people," he said, adding that "the two friendly countries and brothers should do their utmost to resolve such problems." He expressed his hope to "develop bilateral cooperation in various political fields" Economic, cultural and environmental issues after the formation of the new Iraqi government. "
    "There are problems between the two countries, which may hamper the development of bilateral cooperation and should be resolved through negotiation and dialogue," he said.
    Jhangiri said "the serious repercussions on the environment caused by fires in Hor al-Azim, which negatively affected the living conditions of the population of Khuzestan province," and expressed the hope to resolve these issues through the cooperation of the Iraqi government "as soon as possible."
    "Despite the lack of water resources and the drought in the country, Iran has always honored its commitments to provide 20 percent of the Great Hor water, and we expect Iraq to also strive to comply with its commitments in this area," he said.
