Irbil (Kurdistan) 24 - Iran has decided to exempt Iraqis who intend to enter the territory of the visa fees to respond similarly to an Iraqi decision.
The Iraqi government decided mid-month to exempt Iranians who wish to visit Iraq from visa fees starting tomorrow.
With this decision, Iranians and Iraqis will be able to exchange visits between the two countries free of charge, a move that has drawn criticism from Iraqi political forces.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasimi told Iranian television recently that the decision was made during a historic visit by Iranian President Hassan Rowhani to Iraq two weeks ago.
Today, the Iranian embassy in Baghdad said in a statement it would begin issuing free visas to Iraqi nationals from Monday.
All visas will be free of charge to Iraqis and no other fees will be taken, the official IRNA news agency reported.
The head of the Committee on Health and Environment Parliamentary Qutaiba Jubouri said in a statement that the decision "to abandon the rights of the Iraqi people and waste of its economic resources."
"If the government invokes the Iranian side to take the same action, Iraq is the biggest loser in this equation, because the number of Iraqis visiting Iran does not exceed 5 percent of the huge numbers of Iranians entering Iraq, especially on religious occasions."
The price of the Iranian visa to Iraq was $ 50.
Iranians make up the bulk of foreign visitors, especially during visits to religious events in Shiite holy cities in Iraq.
