The Minister of Agriculture, Saleh al-Hassani, on Tuesday, continued to prevent the import of 18 articles to the abundance of domestic product, pointing out that the imported materials enter through smuggling.
In a statement received by Mawazine News, Al-Hassani said that "the continued import ban on a number of plant crops and animal products, 15 plant crops and 3 animal products, is being prevented in the local markets and in support of the local product and the national economy."
He added that "the continuation of this decision comes in order to preserve the local product and to encourage farmers, farmers and livestock breeders to continue production, as well as the operation of labor and activating the role of the private sector in increasing investment and the establishment of agricultural investment projects to support the national economy of the country."
"The list of crops prohibited from importation currently includes tomatoes, cucumber, eggplant, cucumber, cauliflower, carrots, buckthorn, yellow corn, lettuce, fresh garlic, trees, , And fish).

He pointed out that "the continuation of communication with the Border Ports Authority and the security authorities to prevent the entry of prohibited agricultural products and products from imports," explaining that "the decision to open the import depends on the balance of the market and according to local need in addition to the adoption of agricultural calendar set by the Ministry of Agriculture."
He called on the citizens to "trust their ministries and the local abundance of the Iraqi product is real and not just for media use."
