    Today, Saturday, the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed the acceleration of the import process in order to address the current rise in the local markets.


    Minister Abbas Al-Alaywi said, in a press conference followed by NRT Arabia, that “this year was rainy and different from previous years, and it caused an increase in grazing areas, which in turn encouraged livestock breeders to go towards these lands for fattening and propagation," pointing out that "this It affected the prices of meat in the markets in conjunction with the season of the month of Ramadan, in which the prices of meat and other products rise every year.


    Al-Olayawi added, “Import is open as it was previously, and at a higher rate, and the ministry has begun the process of accelerating the import process in order to address the current rise,” reassuring that “the current rise will not continue for much, and the market will return to its normal state. 


    Regarding climate change, he said: "We have a promising plan for the strategy to combat desertification that was prepared for the year 2030, and it includes many steps, and an initiative was launched by the Prime Minister to plant 5 million trees and palm trees." Throughout Iraq, we started a large program with the governorates and supporting ministries in cultivating these quantities.


    Al-Alaywi continued, "We have a great deal of work with international organizations on how to address the water shortage through real water management in a better way, because climate change is not the only problem for Iraq, but there are problems in water management." ,” stressing, “taking great steps through the Ministry of Resources.” and cooperation with international institutions.


    Regarding the wells, he stated, "We have a big problem with the lack of water, and everyone knows the area of ​​the plan that is planted with about one and a half million dunums. Therefore, the problem was addressed by heading towards The desert lands, provided that they are not drilled randomly.Rather, there is a specialized ministry, the Ministry of Water Resources, that by discovering the area in which a well is to be worked jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture, and promising areas are identified because some lands contain sulfur areas and some of them are already dry, even if drilling is done at great depths, the amount of water produced is not good.


    Al-Olayawi pointed out that "all the water that is currently used is to stop what is required for the cultivation process, and there is no water used for anything other than the agricultural process, since the product cannot be grown in land that contains sulfuric water, and thus affects the product and also affects the soil.” 


    And he stressed, "The use of modern technologies is an inevitable option and there is no alternative to it, since the quantities of water delivered this season are few." Modern irrigation, represented by pivotal devices, in installments over 10 years without interest, in addition to encouraging import companies to import without paying customs duties and taxes. 


    He pointed out that "the agricultural season for the current year 2023 is a promising season and it is expected that the crop that was produced this year and will start from 1/5/2023 will reach 4 million tons, which is a quantity of wheat." production that we have not reached for a long time,” pointing out that “it was the rainy wave that affected the volume of production, after the expected quantity in the plan prepared for this year did not reach 3 million tons.”


    And Al-Alaywi stated that "the presence of rain encouraged the ministry to increase the cultivated areas by one million dunums, and thus the cultivated area increased and affected the increase in production and its money was allocated," calling on farmers to "hand over Their products to the Ministry of Commerce after a decision was made in a meeting in the presence of the Prime Minister with the Ministries of Finance and Trade By handing over the farmers' money within two weeks after handing over the harvest.”
