The Turkish ambassador to Iraq, Fatih Yildiz, on Thursday, that Iraq is unable to suffice with the local output of table eggs.
Yildiz said in a statement to Turkish media today that his country "exports 73% of its domestic production of table eggs to Iraq, and a total value of 309 million dollars, noting that the domestic production of eggs in Iraq meets about 45% of the needs of the market in the country."
He added that "the motive behind Iraq to stop importing eggs from Turkey is to encourage domestic production, but Iraq can not within this brief period to develop a production capacity that can cover this difference in needs."
"It will be discussed with the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture, especially since the Iraqi market is wide open to import," Yildiz said.
"We will ask them to tell us their concrete needs, and in the coming period there will be a development in this subject."
The price of table eggs in the recent period has risen significantly, where the price of "layer" eggs double the previous price because of the suspension of import of the material and dependence on domestic product, while the Ministry of Agriculture attributed the rise because of what it called "the greed of traders."
The Minister of Agriculture, Saleh al-Hassani, on Tuesday, continued to prevent the import of a number of plant crops and animal products by 15 plant crops and 3 animal products, including eggs, for their abundance in local markets and support for the local product and the national economy.
