    Information / Baghdad ..
Stephen Pigeon, a diplomat who is leading efforts to revive stalled nuclear disarmament negotiations with North Korea, is likely to be the next US ambassador to Russia, a source familiar with the matter said.
Fox, citing two people familiar with the White House internal debate, said Pigeon, Washington's current envoy to North Korea, was the likely candidate of President Trump to be his ambassador to Moscow.
The latter did not immediately respond when asked about the Fox report, while the State Department said it had no comment on the Trump administration's decisions.
If Pigeon, a Russian specialist, gets the ambassador in Moscow, it would leave a big gap in US efforts to resume negotiations to persuade North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons, a political priority for Trump.
Begon led working-level negotiations with North Korea in preparation for the second summit between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Hanoi last February, which ended in failure.
The US State Department announced last week that the current ambassador to Moscow, John Huntsman, will step down in October after two years in the job, amid speculation that he intends to run for governor of Utah.
