Shafak News / A source in the State of Law coalition revealed on Thursday a "deal" concluded between the political forces and former Prime Minister-designate Adnan Al-Zarfi to step down from the task of forming the next government.
The source said in a special statement to Shafaq News, on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the information, that the deal "included the nomination of Al-Zarfi for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the next government or the position of the head of the intelligence service."
The source added, "If Al-Zarfi does not wish to occupy one of the positions, he can nominate someone to act on his behalf or who finds it appropriate."
On Thursday, Al-Zorfi announced that he was stepping down from the task of forming the government "in the interest of the public interest" and for "internal and external" reasons that he did not disclose.
Less than an hour later, the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, commissioned the head of the intelligence service, Mustafa al-Kazemi, to form the government within 30 days.
The indications suggest that Al-Kazemi’s mission will be easy in light of the support he received from most of the Shi’ite, Sunni, and Kurdish political blocs.
And will succeed the new government, the government of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, who resigned in early December under pressure from popular protests calling for the departure and accountability of all political class accused of corruption and waste of state funds.
