An informed security source revealed, on Wednesday, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s refusal to hand over the detainees accused of targeting Erbil airport to the federal government.
The source said in a statement to "the information", that "the Ministry of Interior has asked the Kurdistan Regional Security Council to hand over the two detainees accused of targeting Erbil airport to complete the investigation with them in Baghdad."
The source added, "The Kurdistan Regional Government rejected Baghdad's request, and insisted that they be tried in the region's courts, after American pressure had been received in order not to hand over the detainees to the federal government."
The Directorate of Combating Terrorism in the Kurdistan Region had announced earlier that it had arrested two persons accused of targeting Erbil airport, and they were from outside the region. End / 25 p
