There is talk in Iraq, reported by government and press sources, regarding indications of a "large campaign against corruption" planned by the Iraqi government, "actually started months ago", targeting "administrators and politicians accused of corruption from various components", which culminated, on Saturday, with the arrest of the political leader and businessman The prominent, Jamal Karbouli.
The Iraqi journalist, Ahmed Al-Jasem, said in a statement to Al-Hurra, followed by  IQNEWS , that "he has information indicating that directors and general directors from the ministries of industry, agriculture, trade and the Shiite endowment have been detained, and they are being investigated in secrecy on charges of corruption."
Al-Jasem declined to mention names, saying that he "has lists of those names," adding that "the campaign launched by the government a few months ago led to the trial of the director of general retirement, the director of the Key Card company, and managers in multiple ministries, and culminated in the arrest of Al-Karbouli."
An Iraqi local agency quoted the deputy of the State of Law bloc in parliament, Yusef al-Kalabi, as saying that "the Anti-Corruption Committee started on Monday recording the statements of the head of the Al-Hall Party, Jamal Al-Karbouli, primarily regarding corruption files related to his previous administration of the Red Crescent Society, in addition to corruption files in the Ministry of Industry that he was running." His brother, Ahmed Al-Karbouli, based on the confessions of a businessman, Bahaa Al-Jurani, who is one of the accused in these files.
Al-Kalabi described Al-Jourani as "the cornerstone of this case, especially as he was a mullah or investor in the Ministry of Industry, and a large part of the Ministry of Electricity," according to the agency.
The Iraqi Federal Integrity Commission announced that it had issued 58 arrest warrants against officials during the month of March, which included "two members of the House of Representatives (current and former), a former minister, and a former undersecretary."
    'Corruption dinosaurs'
A source in the Iraqi Ministry of Interior confirmed that there are "middle and high-ranking personalities who are being held under investigation on corruption charges."
The source said, "The Iraqi Intelligence Service participated in the investigation, but the cell led by the team in the interior, Ahmed Abu Ragheef, was leading it."
Lieutenant General Ahmed Abu Ragheef took over the responsibility of the Ministry of Interior's Intelligence Agency, and he leads a cell that "pursues the corrupt," according to the source close to the work of this cell, who said that "there are big names that will fall soon, perhaps in Ramadan and perhaps after, and among them are the corruption dinosaurs."
The journalist Al-Jasem, who said that he "spoke to the heads of Iraqi blocs this information," adding that "the anti-corruption committee led by Abu Ragheef pursued the employees and the young corrupt first, but their fall led to arrests among the adults."
The politician’s brother, Jamal al-Karbouli, MP Muhammad al-Karbouli, did not comment on the accusations directed against his brother until this moment, especially since it came less than a week later to praise the government and its president, Mustafa al-Kazemi, for taking several decisions, including the formation of a council for the reconstruction of Mosul and Port Mubarak and other decisions. .
The arrest of Jamal al-Karbouli, who is the head of the "solution" movement, raised a lot of surprise in Iraqi circles, because al-Karbouli "is known for his close relations with decision-makers," says the Iraqi journalist, Salim Muhammad.
And Muhammad adds that "Karbouli is one of the very influential leaders of the Iraqi Sunni decision. He is one of the richest Sunnis and has economic and political interests in all parts of Iraq. He also owns the Dijlah satellite channel."
The surprise of Karbouli’s arrest was accompanied by a lot of "support" as well, especially within the Iraqi parliament, from which several members avoided publicly commenting on the matter on the Al-Hurra website.
However, former MP and Minister of Transport, Kazem Finjan Al-Hamami, told the Al-Hurra website that "the government's decisions are wise, and it is able to implement them."
Corruption and weak administration in the current Iraqi system cause billions of dollars to be wasted annually, according to United Nations and World Bank reports. The campaigns of the government or civic organizations usually do not result in significant results or victories in this file.

Excellent! I would like to know the big names but I am sure Maliki will not be on the list and in my view he should be the first one.

I guess, if they arrest all the corrupted there will be no more politicians to run Iraq
