The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee stressed, on Sunday, the necessity of hosting security leaders in Parliament to discuss the file of repeated missile targets, while noting that their continuation affects the country's reputation regionally and internationally in several respects, especially the investment aspect.
A member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Muhammad Hussein Abu Dhar, said, "Targeting residential areas and camps is a case that harms the country and its reputation, whether regionally or internationally, and we often spoke with the brothers concerned in the security services about the need to develop air defenses to confront those targets, but the problem still exists."
He added, "Iraq does not have a defense system capable of dealing with attacks, and this remains a problem that must be resolved, otherwise the attacks will be repeated."
He added, "The defect as a result of these missile targets is reflected in other political, economic and even social aspects and affects the investment file and the issue of bringing companies, investors, and others. When repeated targets are observed without deterrence, the matter will lead to the reluctance of investment companies to work in Iraq."
Regarding the parliament’s role in following up on this file, Abu Dharr said: “We, as a parliamentary security committee, are a monitoring body and have collected signatures to host the security leaders to discuss the issue because the issue is exacerbating day after day and the damages are as well. The hosting must be done to show the flaws that allow the recurrence of missile targets, as well as cases of kidnapping and murder.
He added, "The violations are numerous and must be followed by security measures to prevent their recurrence."
