    Today, Sunday, the Parliamentary Services and Reconstruction Committee revealed a set of proposals to establish new roads inside Baghdad and others linking the capital with a number of governorates to absorb the momentum caused by the number of wheels and reduce traffic jams, while it confirmed the agreement with the Ministry of Construction to establish new roads through investment.
    Committee member Jassem Al-Bakhti said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The committee held a series of meetings with the Public Roads Department in the Ministry of Construction and Housing and reached results that pave the way for investment in the construction of modern roads to absorb the momentum in the capital, Baghdad and the provinces."
    He added, "The committee proposed the construction of a group of roads, the first of which is Basmaya Baghdad Road with a length of 20 km, Al-Rasheed Road in Al-Laj area with 14 km, and Al-Nabai Road by 18 km to reduce the momentum and find solid roads in accordance with international standards."
    He stressed that "the committee requested the Directorate of Public Roads in coordination with the Investment Authority to establish additional roads between Baghdad and Wasit, Baghdad and Diyala, Baghdad and Kirkuk, and between Baghdad, Salah al-Din and Nineveh, as well as Baghdad Karbala and Najaf, and these roads are under discussion with the Investment Authority and the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Roads to find a group Of the roads that are specified in 50 roads, and these roads are within international standards and can be implemented through investment in coordination with the Ministry of Construction and Public Roads.”
    He pointed out that “the committee reached to hold an international conference in this regard, but the entry of the Corona pandemic and the difficulty of companies reaching Iraq and announcing investment opportunities postponed the conference,” calling “the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Roads and Municipalities in the governorates to coordinate and invest the mentioned roads.”
    He added, "There are ring roads surrounding the capital, Baghdad, and additional roads and bridges in New Baghdad and Al-Amin, and these areas are all linked to the Al-Mashtal area only, which leads to momentum. We asked the Baghdad Municipality to build a bridge linking Al-Amin area with New Baghdad without going through the Mashtal area to relieve suffocation."
    He pointed out that "there are other bridges that we demanded on the Diyala River, which connects New Baghdad to Nahrawan, and this is a pre-planned plan since the seventies, in addition to reconsidering the bridges and aqueducts linking the Army Canal, the Tigris and Diyala, given the obsolescence of their age."
    Al-Bakhti stressed "the need for the concerned departments to examine and rehabilitate them, and to add bridges to areas that suffer from congestion and bottlenecks.
