{Political: Al Furat News} Turkey has determined what it wants from Iraq in the water file, "confirming" cooperation with Iraq in this field.
Today, Sunday, the Turkish ambassador to Baghdad, Reza Günay, assured that his country will not monopolize water over Iraq, but that it should use it optimally, proposing the construction of more dams to protect the country from torrential rains and floods, and to provide water in dry seasons.
Günay said in a joint press conference with Nineveh Governor Najm al-Jubouri during his visit to the city of Mosul, which was attended by Shafak News Agency correspondent, that "Turkey cares very much about Nineveh and seeks to be in its best form," explaining that "the reason for this interest is due to the destruction and devastation that this city has been subjected to. Because of ISIS.
He pointed out that Mosul needs investment and investors, and there are many investors who can invest here, adding: We are here today to discuss commercial and investment issues and there are specialists in this field who came with me.
With regard to the issue of water, Gunay said that there is great communication between the Iraqi Minister of Water Resources and the Turkish government, noting that the memorandum of understanding that was signed in 2014 has been implemented and has been activated during the past months.
The Turkish ambassador stressed that there is drought in the entire region, not only in Iraq, and global warming also exists.
He added, "The best solution to confronting drought is to modernize the irrigation systems, and the available water must be used in agriculture, and more dams should be built to protect against torrential rains in the rainy seasons, and to save water in the dry seasons."
The ambassador concluded his speech by saying that Turkey has great cooperation in this field with Iraq, explaining that Turkey will not deprive Iraq of the blessing of the Lord of the Worlds and will not monopolize water over Iraqis, but rather wants to use water in an optimal manner.
