Because of the Ukrainian crisis, Iraq is looking for new markets to buy wheat
Shafaq News/ Iraq has started searching for new markets as a result of the uncertainty and stability for grain exporters to the Black Sea as a result of the ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine, according to the S&P Global Platts platform.
The platform mentioned in a report seen by Shafak News Agency; "Because of the uncertainty, some Middle Eastern countries like Iraq are looking to locations other than the Black Sea to get their wheat."
And she added, "Iraq recently bought about 150,000 metric tons of high-quality Australian wheat," noting that "Argentina has also become a major competitor for Black Sea wheat in the Middle East markets."
She pointed out that "traders expect that the impact on wheat trade will be limited, despite the continuing uncertainty in the Black Sea region."
The drought this summer damaged the Iraqi wheat crop. The head of the Iraqi Grain Board said last December 11 that Iraq intends to import two million tons of wheat next year.
