    Economy News - Baghdad
The head of the Ukrainian International Chamber of Commerce in Iraq, Imad Balk, confirmed that the Ukrainian company that was contracted by the Iraqi Ministry of Oil last month to develop the Akaz gas field in Anbar Governorate is “fake and cannot deal with a huge field of this size.”
Imad Balk said, in an interview followed by Al-Iqtisad News, that “the Ukrainian company that the Ministry of Oil contracted with is small, and is not capable of making this large investment.”
He added that "after obtaining the investment contract, they intend to work on mobilizing other companies to work in the field, as they are not qualified to deal with a huge field of this size."
The Ukrainian company with which the Ministry of Oil signed a contract with the aim of developing the Akkas gas field is called “Ukrazm Resources”.
Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul Ghani, said at the time while he was sponsoring the contract signing ceremony between the ministry represented by the Central Oil Company, the North Oil Company, and the Department of Petroleum Contracts and Licensing and the Ukrainian company Ukrazm Resource, as well as his sponsorship of the contract for the concession of the Korean Kukaz Company in favor of the Ukrainian company. “The national effort at the Central Oil Company had previously been able to operate the field within the treatment plan to supply the Akkas gas station at a rate of (60) Mqmq,” he said.
He added, "The Ministry aims, through the contract with the Ukrainian company, to reach a rate of (100) MQM for the first phase of (1-2) years, and (400) MQM within (4) years," by supplying electric power generation stations with new quantities of Natural gas.
While the Director General of the Central Oil Company, Muhammad Yassin Hassan, said, “The Okaz field project represents an important step towards gas investment, especially in the western region, because this region holds a large gas reserve. We are working to invest it optimally, to supply the national grid with new gas energy that contributes to Supporting the energy sector in Iraq and enhancing national production . ”
