[size=45]After launching the first meal of the year 2022, the Ministry of Commerce is preparing for the second meal of the food basket project, which has won the approval of citizens since the middle of last year. The spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, Muhammad Hanoun, said in an interview with (Al-Mada), that "the ministry is in the process of preparing the fifth meal (the second meal for 2022), of the food basket items."[/size]
[size=45]Hanoun added, "The food basket project is very important, and it is a qualitative and quantitative development in the ration card system, which turned into the food basket, where it was 4 items and will now be 7 items after adding legumes, with both parts, tomato paste and the recent introduction of milk."[/size]
[size=45]A spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce indicated, "Adding new vocabulary to the basket is related to the financial allocations approved by the House of Representatives in its new session in the 2022 budget."[/size]
[size=45]Hannoun pointed out that "the food basket requires the concerted efforts of all citizens and the information of the ministry in order to deliver all its vocabulary to the people."[/size]
[size=45]On May 4, the Iraqi Council of Ministers approved the proposals of the Ministry of Trade regarding the processing of the “food basket,” and the Prime Minister’s media office indicated in a statement, “Securing the financial allocations for the food basket processing project from the Ministry of Finance, which falls within the allocations of the ration card established in the budget for the year 2021, and the Ministry of Oil providing the necessary support to the Ministry of Commerce to implement this in coordination with the Ministry of Finance.”[/size]

[size=45]Citizens often complain about the poor quality of the materials distributed within the ration card, but the Minister of Commerce, Alaa al-Jubouri, explained that “the food basket vocabulary differs in quality from its predecessors, as families will receive below the poverty line and families covered by materials in local markets and enjoy popular acceptance, as Citizens receive Mahmoud rice and Indian basmati, as well as Tunisian tomato paste, chickpeas and beans from Argentine origin, which are of very good quality, while edible oil is also of international origin and produced in one of the national factories in the province of Babylon.[/size]
[size=45]The minister stressed that "the next stage requires making efforts and handing over the citizens to their entitlement of vocabulary and the importance of popular oversight from local governments to distribute good vocabulary worthy of the Iraqi citizen."[/size]
[size=45]In turn, economic affairs specialist Diaa Al-Mohsen said in an interview with Al-Mada that "the vocabulary of the food basket is supposed to be broader and integrated to meet the needs of the citizen in light of its distribution in intermittent periods."[/size]
[size=45]Al-Mohsen added that "the additions made by the Ministry of Commerce were in exchange for reducing the quantity of other materials."[/size]
