It is expected that in the coming days, the "triple alliance", which includes the Sadrist movement, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Sovereignty Alliance, will hold a meeting to coordinate on its candidate for the presidency.
This meeting paved the way for a phone call made by the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani, with the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr.
Following this contact, a joint statement issued by the two leaders stated that the two parties discussed taking the necessary steps and coordinating the positions of the tripartite strategic alliance at the current stage in order to reach the formation of the national majority government.
The statement added that the two parties agreed on the necessity of holding a meeting of the forces of the Triple Alliance in the coming days.
Political data indicates that this meeting came to coordinate support for the new candidate of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, the Minister of Interior in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, Reber Ahmed Khaled Barzani, for the position of the presidency, instead of the former foreign minister, Hoshyar Zebari.
In return for this nomination, the representatives of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, who support Barham Salih’s second term as president, went to the Federal Court with a lawsuit regarding the constitutionality of the parliament’s decision to reopen the nomination for this position again, given the end of the constitutional period specified for the election according to Article (72 / second / b) of Constitution without electing a President of the Republic.
In this context, a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Tariq Jawhar, described the current political process as the most difficult of all the past years, pointing out that the Kurds need 3 factors to agree among themselves.
Jawhar said: The current political process has been characterized by the occurrence of disputes in the Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish homes, in addition to the decline in the role of external intervention to help the internal parties, including the United Nations, which made it the most difficult during the past 18 years.
He added that the Kurds are still insisting on their position and there is no convergence of views or communication between them, stressing that the two parties need frankness in dialogue and reorganization of the relationship in managing the region between them, dealing with Baghdad in a new format and preparing a new strategic agreement based on three pillars: consensus and partnership. and balance.
Jawhar indicated that if the two parties wish to avoid the differences of the current stage, they must reconsider the relationship between them and that their weight is not only in the parliamentary seats, but also in their history, their mass, military and economic bases, in addition to geography.
