During the first quarter of this year alone, the Sulaymaniyah Governorate received 500,000 tourists, an increase of 65 percent, while the value of the profits achieved for the sector last year amounted to 300 million dollars.
The Director of Information of the Tourism Directorate in the governorate, Dasiyar Muhammad, said in a statement to the newspaper, “Al-Sabah” and seen by “The Information”, that “the number of tourists is increasing significantly this year, at a rate of 65 percent, due to the easing of the Corona pandemic procedures and the heavy snowfall,” revealing that “reaching Their numbers during the first quarter of 2022 are more than 500 thousand, compared to one million and 500 thousand during the whole of last year.”
Muhammad added, "The value of the revenues generated from the sector during the past year amounted to 300 million dollars, which made the tourism sector the most profitable in the governorate compared to the rest of the sectors."
