    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

On Thursday, the Ministry of Environment called on the Baghdad Municipality to take urgent measures to stop the bulldozing of agricultural lands, and turn them into residential areas, which indicates that the secretariat has overlooked the follow-up of this file.
The director of the Information and Awareness Department in the ministry, Amir Ali Al-Hassoun, said in a statement that “the ministry is putting pressure on the government and local administrations in the governorates to work on increasing agricultural projects and green spaces and prioritizing such projects.”
Al-Hassoun added, "The ministry's orientation is focused on establishing green belts, in addition to urging citizens to plant at least two square meters in their homes to contribute to improving the atmosphere and reducing dust storms because of their health effects."

Al-Hassoun called on the Municipality of Baghdad and the municipal departments to “take urgent measures to hold accountable those who convert green spaces planted with palms and trees into residential areas without obtaining official approvals from the Ministry of Environment.”
