Today, Friday, the Ministry of Agriculture outlined the causes of encroachment on green spaces, and in what it described as national wealth, it detailed the importance of the recent decision of Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al-Sudani regarding this file, stressing that the government will not allow encroachments on green spaces.
The ministry's spokesman, Muhammad al-Khuzai, said, "The housing sector had been neglected by the state for many years, especially from the period of the economic blockade in 1990 until 2013, and after that, and coinciding with the general situation, citizens moved and encroached on agricultural lands and green spaces for housing as a matter of fact."
Al-Khuzaie added, "This process continued to escalate, leading to the annexation of many of these lands, which turned into residential neighborhoods, which exacerbated this problem."
And he continued, "The stability of the general situation prompted the concerned authorities to take many measures that would limit the process of encroachment on agricultural lands and not allow more, specifically the recent decision issued by the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani, to establish a specific mechanism to regulate random housing and abuses, And then to completely prevent any new encroachment on any area and agricultural lands designated for agriculture to be used as housing, and to punish those who do so.
He pointed out, "These measures preserve existing agricultural plots and green spaces near cities, and would end this file, which took a long time and swelled in the way we are currently seeing in many of Iraq's governorates."
He explained, "The areas of lands that have been encroached upon are large and are not confined to the capital, Baghdad, as many of Iraq's governorates witnessed encroachment on agricultural lands and turned into integrated residential neighborhoods."
He stressed, "These areas represent an agricultural stock and guarantee for the future of all Iraqis, as a national wealth that cannot be forfeited in any way," expressing his hope that "the Prime Minister's recent decision will be a new beginning to end this file and organize housing in these places and limit encroachment." On the green spaces in the capital, Baghdad, and the rest of the provinces.
