The Ministry of Planning conducted a pilot field survey in 6 governorates to find out the cases of poverty in Iraq, while confirming its readiness to conduct a comprehensive survey soon.
Al-Hindawi said, in an interview with (Al-Mada), that "the Central Bureau of Statistics conducted a pilot survey in Baghdad, Nineveh, Basra, Anbar, Muthanna and Erbil."
According to Al-Hindawi, this step came within the preparations of the Ministry of Planning, in cooperation with the World Bank, to implement a comprehensive economic and social survey in Iraq.
He pointed out that "a rural area and an urban area were selected from each governorate to conduct the survey, as Sadr City was chosen as an urban area and as a rural area in Jisr Diyala."
Al-Hindawi added, "The aim of this experiment is to test the capabilities available to the Ministry of Planning at the technical and human levels. It is hoped that the comprehensive survey will begin next July and continue for 14 months."
Al-Hindawi explained, "The aim of the survey is to provide comprehensive information on the reality of poverty in Iraq, and the survey will also provide indicators on inflation and unemployment rates, so that after that, the third poverty reduction strategy can be prepared in Iraq from 2023 to 2027."
According to official figures, the poverty rate in Iraq has exceeded 22.5 percent, but international and non-governmental organizations speak of higher rates.
The Iraqi markets are suffering from a noticeable stagnation in conjunction with the continuation of the war between Russia and Ukraine, which resulted in raising the prices of materials all over the world.
