    The
    Iraqi Ministry of planning, said Tuesday that it had started
    implementing the survey of poor areas in cooperation with the United
    Nations and the World Bank is the first of its kind in Iraq and the
    region, indicating that the objective of providing services to the
    population of those with direct confirmed speaking with free housing for
    slum dwellers.

    The planning Minister said in an interview with
    Avinash for "alsumaria news", on the sidelines of his visit to Najaf
    today, "Ministry of planning carried out in collaboration with the
    Housing Fund of the United Nations and World Bank project is the first
    of its kind in Iraq and the region is in the poorest areas, which are
    pockets of poverty in the country."

    Al-Shukri said that "survey
    includes 317 a random sample throughout Iraq, including about 10,000 in
    Najaf", stating that "its aim is to provide health and education
    services and the other for the inhabitants of those regions, especially
    since poverty is one of the main reasons for the reluctance of
    education".

    Al-Shukri said that "the Ministry started the
    low-cost housing will be distributed free to residents of slums and the
    poor", pointing out that "the funds earmarked for the project and
    contracted with the Ministry of housing to build such complexes in the
    provinces".

    Ministry of planning Mahdi relationship in June last
    year, 2011, that the poverty level in Iraq are still 23%, which means
    that a quarter of Iraq's population live below the poverty line,
    including nearly 5% in extreme poverty, the poverty line includes food
    and other basic needs.

    The Iraqi Government launched in May of
    2010, the five-year national development plan 2010-2014, during the
    ceremony organized by the Ministry of planning and development
    cooperation in Iraq under the banner "towards diverse and sustainable
    Iraqi economy", which aims to reduce disparities and barriers between
    urban and rural areas, and the establishment of infrastructure and
    social services and jobs, increase gross domestic product by 9, 38
    percent annual growth rate during the plan period while working to
    diversify the economy which is dependent on oil imports.

    The Iraq
    suffers from severe housing crisis due to the increasing population as
    measured by number of residential complexes, as well as the inability of
    the national low income housing unit building of its own because of the
    high cost of land and construction materials, construction and Housing
    Ministry estimates Iraq needs three million housing units to meet the
    housing crisis in Iraq.
