In a form of political conflict, opponents resort to media war to strike each other, through minds run by them and electronic armies that fight their battles by publishing and broadcasting propaganda, rumors and misinformation that could harm the target party. This war has intensified in the recent crisis with the intensification of political discourse.
Ghaleb Al-Daami, a political analyst, told UTV that, “Broadcasting rumors and lies harms the party behind it. When a political party broadcasts lies, the public will know that later, and therefore will have a perception that this party is a liar.”
These days, social media sites in Iraq are buzzing with audio leaks that have embarrassed large political blocs, in addition to fabricated data, forged tweets, and piracy of official and private sites, all of which are met by platforms that seek to uncover facts through teams working to reach sources to confirm or deny information.
Seif Raad, a security expert, told UTV that "the security services must intervene to preserve the cyber security of state institutions, but what happens between the parties is part of the rumor war."
Specialists in electronic journalism and communication networks say that political money is used to buy pages and accounts with many followers, and it employs writers and publishers whose mission is to target personalities and entities serving other interests, regardless of the consequences.
Hadi Al-Asami, a specialist in electronic journalism, points out that "fake publications may transform the conflict from political to security, and at this stage it will be very dangerous."
And in the first 48 hours only from the moment the protesters entered the parliament headquarters, platforms to combat false news detected dozens of misleading information, most of which related to the developments of the current crisis and were falsely attributed to politicians, senior officials and the media, and the numbers are increasing.
