The consultative meeting of the forces of protest and change, which was held in Nasiriyah, affirmed full support for the peaceful protest against the corrupt authority on the third anniversary of the October Revolution, while forming several committees to draw the starting points for action to address the Iraqi crisis, and to present the desired political, economic and social alternative.
The Secretary-General of the National House, Hussein Al-Ghurabi, said in an interview with (Al-Mada), after his participation in the meeting, that "the consultative meeting of the forces of protest and change comes within the work of the second session of the Consultative Council."
Al-Ghurabi added, "Parties emanating from Tishreen and other parties that did not participate in the quotas, actors in the protest movement, representatives from unions, federations and civil society organizations who participated in the event, as well as academics and professors concerned with the social movement, were gathered."
He pointed out that "the participants in the meeting represent different Iraqi cities, and from different spectrums of Iraqi society."
Regarding the most prominent topics addressed by the meeting, Al-Ghurabi said, “The meeting’s agenda included three main axes, represented by the relationship of the emerging parties to the protest movement, the basic demands adopted by the movement, and the position on the demonstrations that will be launched on the first of next October.”
He pointed out that "the meeting resulted in a working paper included in the meeting's final statement, as well as the formation of several committees to follow up on its results."
And the final statement of the consultative meeting of the forces of protest and change, which was held on Friday in the hall of the Sumerion Hotel in Nasiriyah, stated that "the conferees stressed the necessity of the unity of the noble national principles and goals of the political, social and protest movement, which opposes the quota system, corruption and weapons."
The statement pointed out, "the importance of adhering to national demands, foremost of which is holding the killers of the demonstrators accountable, revealing the fate of the disappeared, and taking care of their families."
He called for the need to "hold the corrupt accountable, confine weapons to the state, ensure the independence of the judiciary, implement the parties' law, and reform the electoral system to be free and fair that reflects the will of the Iraqis."
The statement spoke of "the importance of forming a political front of the forces that believe in democratic change, that would constitute a real political alternative, made up of parties and personalities that were not involved in the crisis and the pure Iraqi blood and corruption."
And he called for "full support for the peaceful protest against the corrupt authority that aims for change on the third anniversary of the October Revolution."
The statement pointed out, "The language of slander and treason is a language for which we have paid dearly, and therefore we call on the perpetrators to be wise in throwing what is not among the opponents."
He stressed, "full support for the families of the martyrs, the disappeared and the falsely detained in the western governorates, the return of the displaced to their depopulated areas, and the support for the causes of our people in Sinjar, especially the issue of the kidnapped Yazidis."
The statement noted, "to support the cause of the existence of the Assyrian people and the rest of the minorities to preserve the existence of the subsidiary identities that make up the entire Iraqi nation."
He stated, "The consultative meeting, in order to continue the effort in unifying the goals and coordinating the movement, ended with the formation of committees with the participation of specialists and competencies, each within its competence."
The statement added, "The committees are to develop and formulate the political vision (the state, institutions and demands raised by the October uprising), the second to develop an integrated vision of the electoral system that achieves change, and the third to formulate the social contract."
The statement went on to say, "This meeting is the actual beginning of a series of activities and meetings in order to ripen visions and move towards a comprehensive and radical treatment of the crisis, and to present the desired political, economic and social alternative."
