Today, Sunday, the Agency's Minister of Finance, Hiyam Neamat Mahmoud, held an extensive meeting with the general managers of Iraqi government banks regarding the banks' work mechanisms and the obstacles they face.
And the ministry stated in a statement, that "the Agency's Minister of Finance, Hiyam Nemat Mahmoud, chaired at the ministry's headquarters, an expanded meeting that included the general managers of Iraqi government banks regarding the mechanisms of banks' work and the obstacles they face."
The Minister of Finance said, according to the statement, that "the banking sector has witnessed a set of challenges, variables and exceptional circumstances, the most important of which is the Corona pandemic, which cast a shadow over the whole world and the accompanying economic downturn, especially in the oil-exporting countries."
She added, "Nevertheless, the government banking sector was able to commit to providing the requirements to support the national economy and to spare it the negative effects of economic repercussions and international conflicts."
The minister stressed, "the importance of strengthening joint cooperation between banking institutions, and understanding a common strategy, to improve and develop the Iraqi banking sector, and enhance its role in the local and international banking arena."
She pointed to "the need to strengthen the role of Iraqi banks through the development of executive mechanisms and comprehensive action plans that serve the strategic objectives of the banking sector, which revolve around the stability and balance of the local economy."
