Today, Friday, the Ministry of the Interior clarified the mechanism for granting identities of possession and bearing weapons, and while it identified those covered by the possession of weapons, it revealed that it had taken measures towards a real problem facing the Iraqis.
The spokesman for the ministry, Major General Khaled Al-Muhanna, said that "unlicensed weapons are a real problem facing Iraqi society, so the Ministry of Interior takes a number of measures, one of which is to legalize the availability of weapons to specific groups," explaining that "granting identities of possession and bearing weapons to only people who need them, It is by order of the Minister of Interior, and this is part of the policy of restricting arms to the hands of the state.”
Al-Muhanna added, “The covered groups include some media professionals who are under threat, as well as some lawyers, senior economists, and sometimes tribal sheikhs, and people who believe that there is a serious threat to their lives, so there is an order for the Minister of Interior to grant possession and pregnancy leave according to the mechanisms in the The Directorate of Identities, such as health tests, age requirements, and a weapon test.
He continued, "The number of violent crimes is declining, such as murder, threats and kidnapping, and the crimes that are on the rise are crimes related to the economic situation, fraud, theft and electronic crimes."
He pointed out that "technology is of great importance to all police agencies in the world, and it has a major role in detecting crime and preventing its commission, and all these techniques have been used and succeeded by police agencies."
He pointed out that "many mysterious crimes were detected in Iraq through monitoring cameras and communications devices, and they were tracked through a large system of technologies currently used by the Ministry of the Interior," stressing "the need for the capabilities of internal employees to grow in line with this rapid development in technologies."
On the fight against drugs, he stated that "the efforts of the Ministry of Interior are continuing in the fight against drugs," noting that "there are large numbers of people arrested, reaching 9,000 suspects since the beginning of this year, in addition to seizing tens of tons of narcotic substances." .
Al-Muhanna noted, "The Minister of Interior had made very big moves in the file of cooperation with the police services in neighboring countries, and he had several visits to regional bodies, in addition to agreements to exchange information and agreements on common borders in cross-border crimes such as drugs, human trafficking and many more." In addition, there is a lot of cooperation and communication with Interpol agencies.”
