Shafaq News/ Independent MP Hadi Al-Salami announced, on Monday, his rejection with a number of deputies of the draft information crimes law, stating that the draft law includes many remnants, while the inclusion of the law on the session's agenda was considered a "violation" of the parliament's internal system.
Al-Salami told Shafaq News agency, "The parliament's presidency violated the parliament's internal system by including the information crimes law on the session's agenda without the knowledge of the parliament."
He added, "There is a reservation and rejection of the Information Crimes Law, given that the law relates to 41 million Iraqis and cannot be approved in its current form."
He pointed out that "in the past, there was a collection of the signatures of the deputies and sending a letter to the prime minister in the previous government to withdraw the draft law because it contained major violations, because Article 38 of the constitution provides for freedom of opinion, expression, and peaceful demonstration, as well as Articles 5 and 20 of the constitution, and that the people are the source of powers, This law contains violations that are not commensurate with the constitutional articles.”
Al-Salami continued, "All countries of the world have developed in the field of citizen's rights and access to information, except for us, as the information crimes law contains violations, and we refuse to approve the law in Parliament."
Al-Salami confirmed, "We, along with a group of deputies, refuse to approve the law, and we ask the Presidency of the Council of Ministers to withdraw the law from parliament and amend it in accordance with the Iraqi constitution."
