Erbil (Kurdistan 24) - The Iraqi Integrity Commission announced, on Monday, the launch of the Integrity Week in the country, stressing that Iraq was serious about combating corruption in the previous stages.
The head of the commission, Judge Haider Hanoun, said, "The National Integrity Week started today, as it is an investment in the International Anti-Corruption Day, which emerged from the United Nations Convention against Corruption."
The Iraqi News Agency quoted Hanoun as saying, "Through this treaty, it became clear that corruption has taken on a global character and has transcended the borders of countries."
He pointed out that "in front of all countries and Iraq as part of the global system is plagued by corruption in particular, as it had special procedures in this field and joined the agreement by Law No. 35 of 2007."
He added, "Iraq was serious about combating corruption, but in the previous stages there were no fruitful and accurate results, so there was no limit to corruption."
He pointed out that "the commission invested all the past procedures and failures and started a new plan to combat corruption in Iraq in all the higher and lower areas of the job."
Hanoun considered that "the procedures of the Integrity Commission now are based on a new policy required by the current stage, which is considering the crime of corruption as treason to the homeland."
The head of the commission indicated that "a central operations center was established recently to receive instant news over the phone regarding corruption cases," to facilitate its elimination.
Regarding procedures related to money inflation and illicit gain, Hanoun stressed that "the corrupt do not leave evidence behind, especially the adults who have legal protection to reduce the chances of access to them."
In order to shorten the path to illegal gain and money inflation, the head of the commission said, "The person is required to disclose the money, its legitimacy, and the way in which it was obtained."
He continued, "In the event that this is not disclosed, an investigation file will be organized for him and referred to the Supreme Commission for Combating Corruption, and his access to the judiciary for a ruling."
And he concluded his speech, “The accused is sentenced by combating money inflation, and he is not released except by depositing the stolen money to the state,” explaining that “he will remain in prison until the stolen money is deposited.”
