Today, Tuesday, foreign research centers said that Iraq will maintain and strengthen its position as a major mediator to improve relations between the countries of the region in the Middle East during the current year 2023, indicating that this came after doubts that escalated in the recent period about the intentions of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani.
The National News network, in a report translated by (Baghdad Today), reported statements by the director of the Iraqi initiative at the Chatham House Institute in London, Renad Mansour, during which he stressed that “Baghdad has sought to revive and improve the economy and political relations with its Arab surroundings during the past years.” This allowed him to act as a mediator in the relations of the countries of the region, especially between Tehran and Riyadh.
On the other hand, the researcher at the Century Foundation Center, Sajjad Jiyad, confirmed that "the distinguished location that Iraq has now enjoyed in the region enabled it to activate and enter any dialogue, communication or negotiation with any country easily, which gave it the ability to be the main mediator of international relations in the eastern region.” Al-Awsat,” adding that “Baghdad has positive relations with all parties and is able to communicate and create link easily, especially since it enjoys great geopolitical interest from major countries such as Turkey in the region, and the United States on an international level.” , which Iraq was able to use to enhance its diplomatic position and the effectiveness of its mediation.” ".
As for the researcher at the Washington Institute for Studies, Michael Knight, he said, "Al-Sudanese visits to both Kuwait and Jordan during the last period provided a clear picture to the Gulf states about the priorities of the Sudanese government, although he had not visited Saudi Arabia or the UAE yet, but it made clear Through them, according to Knight's statements, it "will depend on balancing relations."
He continued, "Iraq may also be able to play a diplomatic mediation role, taking advantage of its characteristics to reach solutions that enhance the security of the region, such as resolving the Palestinian issue, the situation in Yemen and the conflict in Libya."
